The exponential increase in mass tourism has given rise to two opposite but closely connected phenomena: overtourism, which Federalbegrhi Veneto investigated last year in our "Report on Overtourism - Focus on Veneto", and anti-tourism, a critical response which proposes new ways of exploration outside conventional circuits. In particular, this conference aims to investigate the phenomenon of anti-tourism, exploring its economic, social and environmental implications, and illustrating specific show cases. Together we will reflect on sustainable tourism models, urban regeneration practices as well as the need to find a balance between access to destinations and the protection of local communities, as well as cultural heritage. Essential in this context is a necessary cultural transition in terms of communication that marks the transition from the mere promotion of destinations to conscious and responsible information for tourists.
