With 1.3 billion global arrivals in 2023 (UNWTO figure), the destination ecosystem cannot be independent of the world around it; instead, it has a great responsibility for the future of tourism and environmental and social sustainability.
What, then, should be the role of a destination in today's world, and how can an area help address urgent and current challenges to preserve the tourism of the future?
This panel will be a journey to discover Italian destinations that are already field-testing new solutions, social and tourism innovations making their territories attractive for a more sustainable and responsible tourism.
In Castelsaraceno (Basilicata) we will talk about depopulation, emigration of human capital, young people and their responsibility in the management and for the future of inland areas.
In Val Di Sole (Trentino) we will address climate change and the challenges of destinations to make tourists aware of its impact, helping them to leave the best destination when they leave again.
In Messina (Sicily) we will talk about suburbs and marginal areas to be regenerated, where we will co-design hope and new opportunities for tourism that truly generates welfare for all.
There will be interventions, stories and experiments shared by the People who at the helm of these destinations have brought concrete and measurable results by improving fruition, increasing tourism and thus contributing to a better world.
A panel curated and coordinated by Emma Taveri, destination strategist who hybridizes territorial marketing, social innovation and creativity to make tourism a catalyst for change, possible everywhere and participated in by everyone.
