Power does not enjoy a good reputation. How many times, in running organizations, from the small business to the large hotel chain, have we been told that we should use "less power and more leadership," or have been proffered lists of distinctions between being a boss and being a leader (all, of course, in favor of the latter). The truth, however, is quite different. Power exists, all right. It fuels decisions and influences behavior. Often, moreover, in a positive way. There are times in the life of organizations when to implement changes, to make unpopular decisions, to maintain the quality standards demanded by customers, it is necessary to play the power game. This meeting is devoted to understanding how and when to do this.
